You are about to see a sequence of images of 5 different characters. Each sequence will have an emotional emphasis. After you have seen the test materials please scroll down to answer the survey questions. If you would like the picture to be enlarged simply click the image to open in a new tab on your browser.

The piece you are about to see is a basic story about a a character realizing their mustache has gone missing. Each character will preform the same sequence. You will decide which of these ‘actors’ you prefer. In this version of the story the Happy emotion is emphasized.

PhD Characters: The Posters WIP

Here are all five characters to be used in my research. Each one represents a different archetype of an animated character. All use slightly different methods to construct and render. This will make interactions between each problematic as they all have completely different light sets assigned to them. Some even have different light sets assigned to different parts of their body. As my work stands, I doubt I will need to produce any sequence with needs two different type of character interacting. Even if I did there are ways and means to do this. Bare in mind that this is a WIP adjustments will be made at later stages. Each character represents a level of realism.

Phd Character WIP: Part 2

Here is another character, this one represents the Abstract character archetype. Although, not truly abstract due to a requirement being all characters should be rendered to the same level of completeness a true abstraction of the character would make it seem in complete. This character uses a seemingly arbitrary abstract shape rather than it being broken down to a component level. An abstract character such as this was chosen as it it the most different from the human character and will not be able to do the same things so easily and vice versa.

You may remember this character from my logo design created for the CGI conference. This character was not the first choice for this archetype however, as the first choice developed it was beginning to turn into a mess. This character should have always been the first choice. The character was given an upgrade, with an improved eye and reconfigured geometry which works better for movement. Adjustments may follow.

This is the first incarnation of potently one of the characters to be used in my research which aims to discover which emotions are more favourable when enacted by different animation archetypes and how this effects the overall perception of each archetype. At some point I will produce a 3D turn around. This character is still a work in progress so some adjustments will be made before final testing. Stay posted for the rest.

Here is the second update to the logo. The colours are a little more bolder and the has been some added details such as the eyes on the middle monster and spit on the left monster. Click the image to enlarge it.

Facebook Log In

Thanks to some recent updates to Facebook you can now log into Kap13.com with your Facebook account. This allows you to post comments and interact on the site. Other changes include a new fan box, be sure to hit ‘like’ if you do in fact like this site. If you don’t then, whatever. I have planned some major updates in November so stay posted to see that. Among these updates will be the Research section which will feature unsurprisingly some of my research works which require interactions.

CGI Conference Logo WIP

Still a work in progress so far, this is the potential logo for the upcoming conference to be held in Bournemouth University in 2012. Doing this has really made me want to do a series of short monster works. I will keep you posted on that as and when I get time, which I have precious little of these days.

This is my entry for the Wooshi title competition. This title is based on one of the very first gangster movies. Little Caesar which was released in 1931.
